!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I had to film a car recently and most of the audio ended up being totally blown out, which was weird because the car really wasn’t terribly loud. I suppose I should have spent more time getting the audio levels right. Anyway, does anybody have any tricks they use to salvage blown out audio? I’m working with Adobe Audition FWIW. Some of the audio is just a total lost cause and other bits I could kind of salvage with a bit of DeClipping and DeClicking, followed by some EQ and FFT filters if need be. Video of what I could recover so far for your time.

Unfortunately, clipped audio is a lot like blown highlights in photography. There's no recovering it. Your best best is to just play with your mids and highs to make the clipping as tolerable to listen to as possible.

I’ve watched enough youtube to know you just put really loud edm music over all content and you get a million clicks. Sorry I’m of zero help.

Ah Raymundo! I am a Location Sound Mixer. Sadly, if it’s distorted [overmodulated] there’s no fixing it. Everyone takes sound for granted, but it is the glue that holds your narrative together. Try voice over or lay in some rerecorded or stock sound files, because your sync sound is pretty worthless. But, you just learned something. Spend time on Sound.

I joked with the owner of the car and said I could just overlay the whole video with dubstep/stance nation music. Somehow those videos do pretty well on the internet.

It’s going to be reeeaaaallly hard to do a voice over for the audio track that is a 4.2L V8 from a Maserati Coupe. I suppose I could ring up one of those car impressionists. lol. Yeah if this was a narrative, then I could re-record the voice at a later time, but it’s the exterior car audio that’s blown out in this case; not really something I can re-record or procure stock files for. Lesson learned: get your levels right for the entire rev range of an engine before recording.

Yeah, seems to be about all I can do. Thanks for the help.
